Roger Climpson
Roger Climpson is one of Australia's best known and most respected television personalities. A veteran of the Australian media, Roger Climpson began his career in radio theatre during the early 1950s. He then joined Channel Nine at its inception in 1956 where he worked as a general announcer for nine years.
In 1967 Roger became the voice and face of Channel Seven Sydney as Senior Newscaster, a position he held for fifteen years. During this time he received the Sydney TV Newsreader Award five times.
In 1977 he became an afternoon presenter on Radio 2GB Sydney and started hosting the top rating television program This is Your Life, hosting 150 episodes from 1977 to 1982.
In 1982, Roger retired from Channel Seven to undertake the running of his family business, however he returned to Channel Seven as leading news presenter from 1989 to 1994. From 1997 to 1998 Roger was the host of Channel Seven’s program Australia’s Most Wanted.
In 1994 Roger was diagnosed with prostate cancer and underwent surgery, which was successful. The following year he created The Prostate Cancer RESEARCH Foundation of Australia with The Rotary Club of Lane Cove and became our founding patron.
In 2004 Roger was awarded The Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division for services to the media, and to the community through a range of service groups.
Today Roger remains actively involved in raising awareness of prostate cancer and supports the work of the PCFA and tonight the Prostate Cancer Foundation would like to award Roger Climpson with Honorary Life Membership of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
