Treat ED: prostate edition
As part of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, in partnership with Impotence Australia, and with an education grant from Elli Lilly, has produced an updated resource on erectile dysfunction.
While erectile dysfunction is an unfortunate consequence of prostate cancer treatment, erections can be improved - and the best chance of ensuring a future sex life is with early intervention.
‘treatED: Prostate Edition’ provides detailed, specific information on the impact of the main prostate cancer treatments on erections and how best to mitigate this side effect. The booklet is an extension of the original ‘treatED’ resource, which provides up-to-date information on the main, proven treatments for ED. The original resource has proved extremely popular and is itself now available in five additional languages - Greek, Italian, Vietnamese, Chinese and Arabic.
‘treatED: Prostate Edition’ is simply written with medical information specifically addressing this topic, to help men and their partners better understand the impact of cancer treatment on erectile functioning.

Continence and prostate: a guide for men undergoing prostate surgery.
The Continence Foundation of Australia (CFA) and Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) in collaboration with the Urological Society of Australian and New Zealand, the Australian Physiotherapy Association, Australian Nurses for Continence and the Australian and New Zealand Urological Nurses Society have develop a new resource titled Continence and prostate: a guide for men undergoing prostate surgery.
A recent survey that examined the prevalence of incontinence in men who had undergone prostate surgery 12 months previously (or more) found that 66% of men experienced urinary incontinence which significantly affected their quality of life. 41% of participants also reported that they were not given discharge information regarding the possibility of developing urinary incontinence post prostate surgery.
This resource has been developed to educate men about the incidence of urinary incontinence following prostate surgery and provides a range of practical information to assist men pre and post operatively. The resource emphasizes the importance of pelvic floor muscles exercises and diet and lifestyle habits and provides information about continence products and where to go for further information.
The free resource is recommended for health professionals who are in contact with men requiring prostate surgery. This includes urologists, urology nurses, pre admission nurses, discharge planning coordinators and general practitioners.
