This year (2012) marks the 5th anniversary of PCFA’s Research Program.

We are currently reviewing our overall Research Strategy, priorities and categories of funding and are yet to determine the exact details and requirements of our 2012 funding round. With the support of Movember, we aim to continue to fund the very best Australian research into prostate cancer, and to ensure that allocation of funding through PCFA’s Research program is guided by a clear strategic focus and a set of specific research priorities, based on deficits in existing research.

Our February Think Tank will bring together leading Australian Prostate Cancer researchers, representatives from Prostate Cancer funding bodies and PCFA’s Research Committee and staff to discuss emerging and current needs of prostate cancer funding in Australia. Discussions will focus on: research/technology development, research collaborations, developing evidence-based interventions, capacity building and technology transfer. It is expected that the participants will identify a clear long term funding strategy and will make recommendations to the PCFA’s National Board.

Intended outcome:

Establish a priority-driven National Prostate Cancer Research Action Plan.

2012 PCFA Funding Round

We anticipate that our next Call for Applications will be announced on the 15th April 2012.  Application deadline will remain the same, 1 July 2012.

Documentations and forms will be available on our website. If you have any further queries about the 2012 funding round please email us at: research@pcfa.org.au

Other Funding Opportunities

In 2012, PCFA will again partner with Cancer Australia to fund meritorious research into prostate cancer. The call for applications to the 2012 PdCCRS is open and will close at 5pm (AEDT) 14 March 2012.

Please note that our funding priorities have changed (see below and at the Cancer Australia website).

2012 PCFA priorities for funding through Priority-driven Collaborative Cancer Research Scheme (PdCCRS)

Discover and validate through clinical trials:

  • novel molecular targets for chemotherapy of locally-invasive or metastatic prostate cancer, including androgen-independent cancers;
  • new, non-invasive tests to detect prostate cancer, and/or to determine whether a patient's cancer is surgically curable;
  • new biomarkers that predict the future clinical course of prostate cancer and/or the response to future chemotherapy; and
  • develop new treatment strategies for prostate cancer, especially locally-invasive or metastatic cancers.

Discover the genetic and cellular factors which initiate and/or perpetuate prostate cancer

  • Provide immediate improvements in the quality of life of patients with prostate cancer.
