The prestigious John Mills Young Investigator Award was established in 2013, in recognition of the outstanding contribution of Professor John Mills AO to PCFA as Chairman of PCFA's Research Program (2007-2013).

The Young Investigator Award provides catalytic funding for early, post-doctoral researchers to help further their research and attract ongoing funding.

The research proposed must be strongly relevant to prostate cancer and may address any of the broad areas of prostate cancer research, including prostate cancer biology, treatment, diagnosis, service delivery, survivorship and prevention. Basic, translational, clinical and population-based studies in any of these research areas are appropriate.

Please note there are three important changes to this funding category:

  • This award has been increased to a maximum of $150,000 over a period of up to 18 months
  • The eligibility criteria has been widened to include Young Investigators who have not more than 5 years post-PhD working experience, up from not more than 2 years
  • The requirement for the Young Investigator's mentor to be a prostate cancer researcher has been removed
  • There are now three options for funding within this category to include provision of research costs for Young Investigators who hold a personal research award that covers part or all of their salary.
