Formation

The Moreton Bay Regional Prostate Cancer Support Group (previously known as the Redcliff PCSG) was formed in August 2012 after the Urology Department of Redcliffe Hospital volunteered to provide facilities for the conduct of meetings. They also, initially, arranged for refreshments free of charge through a sponsor.

The Group is indebted to the efforts of Urologist Dr Meyer, Nurse Practitioner Yvette Sullivan, Support Group Co-ordinator Daryl Hyland and Brisbane Deputy Convener Ian Smith. Ian Smith continued to volunteer as Group advisor until August 2014 until the Group welcomed the services of Bill Hogan.

Activities

The Group has over 90 members and 30 partners and several of these partners attend regularly.

While the Group has concentrated on providing talks from speakers associated with the medical discipline (Urologists, Radiologists, Physiotherapists, Dieticians, Exercise Therapists, etc) it has moved to provide some social activities with a view to suppressing the depressive nature of prostate cancer treatments & journeys and to increase camaraderie amongst members.

There is ample opportunity for members to ‘bend the ear’ of the specialists and to meet and discuss prostate cancer journeys with other men.

Meetings

Meetings are held at 6.30pm every second Tuesday of the month (except January) at the Education Centre of Redcliffe Hospital, Anzac Avenue, Redcliffe. Parking in the hospital car park is easy at that time. Members are invited to turn up at 6pm to avail themselves of the refreshments and meetings usually end at 8.30pm.

Attendance is free although a gold coin donation box is available for persons wishing to assist us with our expenses.
